Real football ability related to gaming skils?

Recommended Posts

I was playing pes last night and thinking im gonna drag ball back as defender is rushing to me, then i faked wide and cut inside, looked at options and lofted a ball to full back running up wing noting the cf running in the box for a goal.

Obviously you dont need to play football irl to see and do things like this but those that have played the game probably have more ideas in their head? or even those that watch and study a lot of football?

Obviously if I were to play NBA or NHL i can learn controls etc and master them but i wouldnt know things to do that people who play the game do?

Or you think anyone can learn? also it relates to games ability to give a realistic simulation. People how race cars will surely be better than non racers at GT sport initially at least etc But if playing mario kart it wont matter haha. Maybe 20 years ago football video games were mostly about button timing and manipulation of the game etc, Nowadays fifa and especially pes allows you to act and think.'''what would a real footballer do right now?'' and then moreso with pes you have to think which player you are controlling. You have Messi so you know you can do a quick turn and skip past oncoming defender but a big slow guy you know to just hold up ball and look for pass etc.

So, overall those that play IRL and have good football brain should be better at the video game or not?

Maybe better at simulating, probably not better at winning.

Just like Bazes adult videos might give you some new ideas, but not necessarily good ones

We had a professional footballer in our leagues a season or so ago. He wasn’t great at the game. Not bad but nothing that set him apart from everyone else.

that doesnt actually relate to my point though. If it did it would be the other way round. ''Does acting in porn movies make you better at playing some kind of sex video game'' lol.

I was saying does playing the sport moreso than watching it improve your ability at the game?

Surely if you play lots of basketball youd be better than someone who doesnt at NBA 2k etc?

And obviously if you fought in Iraq youd be a fukin maching in COD and BF lol

Most professional football players havent got a clue about the bigger picture.

People with a football brain deffo play better/Frillypinkr football then just a good gamer. A good gamer usually spams his way to victory.

A pilot would for sure be better at flight sim than a non pilot id say so must be some truth to itl

It's all about perspective.

Flying a plane you're pressing buttons. In a flight sim, you're pressing buttons.

In a football match you're part of a team kicking balls. In a football game you're pressing buttons to control a team.

i suppose, but a basic knowledge of football will be beneficial at least?

Especially related to tactics and formations, but then again most people here for example and how buy football video games will have at least some knowledge and interest in the subject youd guess lol.

playing football (regular and 5  a side) since i was like 5, so thats about 31-32 years now......never made it to pro, never was good enough, but playing it  competitive to this day (veteran leauge these days), coached kids some period in life....saying  this just to say that there is not alot I dont know or understand in football, and I can safely say that unike some simulation games (flight, race, management...etc) PES is one of those games where, the less you think about it the better.

I am allways trying to do something i would do in real game of football, and most of the time its not advisable, and offten lose a game because of it.........on the other side there are a lot of people playing the way it's almost imposible to play in real ife and get much better end result.

I suppose there are 2 ways to play. A way to 'abuse' or take advantage of programming so as to score goals and defend easier which has nothing to do with real life football.

But then there are moments such as knowing when to apply a skill move and how to do it that some football brain will help with?

I guess perhaps not many that dumb people but if you just randonly try say fake left and cut right with no reason to know why you are doing it then you wont be as succcessful as someone how knows when and why he is using it purposefuly etc..

I think there's some thruth to it. To know when to do an inversion if the opposing team is pressing too hard, or when to hold your ground to keep your lines to intercept passes. There's a movement that was Zinho's trademark that is really effective for me when I have the presence of mind to do it, and I never seen anybody else doing it... :shifty:

Other thing, growing up we used to play Pilot Wings for N64 in my friend's house and his dad's (a former pilot) comments and tips made the game not only more enjoyable but also helped us get better at it.
