Match Report

The first half of this game gave no indication of the goal fest it was to become between 2 sides which were evenly matched across the park except in the areas it mattered; finishing and goalkeeping.

The visitors took the lead in the 43rd minute following a patch of sustained pressure.  RYAN's save from a BARNES header was only parried out to the right flank where it was collected by LOBOTKA, he looked up and picked out WOOD who had stolen a yard on DUFFY.  His header was straight at RYAN but with enough force that the Aussie's swipe at the ball could only take some of the sting off and deflect it into the inside side netting.

Colo Colo extended their lead on the 60th minute.  DANIEL PODENCE was causing all sorts of problems between the lines and drew a foul from STEPHENS.  From 35 yards ANGELINO stepped up and curled home a freekick into the top left corner, beyond the despairing dive of RYAN.  The foul was the last action of the game for STEPHENS who was hauled off to be replaced with PRITCHARD.

With the crowd getting on their back and a 2 goal deficit to chase down Valencia threw caution to the wind but as a result were caught on the break twice in quick succession.  The first on 63 minutes from BARNES, breaking clear of the backline his powerful shot was parried straight up into the sky by RYAN only for the striker to win the physical battle with his marker to jump and nod home the rebound from a tight angle.  The second on 69 saw PODENCE collect a WOOD knockdown on the halfway line, draw his marker out before playing a weighted throughball to the Kiwi striker who calmly finished his one on one.

Valencia hit back almost immediately on 75 minutes with LANZINI showing trickery to beat two defenders before putting it on a plate for LAVEZZI to beat MAIGNAN in the Colo Colo goal, up until this point the French keeper had looked unbeatable despite being on a bad arrow, making save after important save.

Any hopes of an unlikely comeback were dashed moments after kickoff, some neat interplay between TRIPPIER, WOOD and FODEN sent TRIPPIER clear down the right flank with no pressure he was able to pick out a pass to PODENCE who burst in the box, chopped his marker on the right corner of the six yard box, showed great balance to hold off the challenge of CHILWELL and finish emphatically with his left foot into the bottom corner on 77 minutes.

I'm posting it so that I'll be on 6 games to save Davo the effort of reviewing my FSLs.

Good game @ParrishJ, one of those where it just went in at one end but not the other despite a pretty even number of chances.

Best of luck in the rest.
