Playing Styles

Recommended Posts

Not sure if there's been a discussion about this previously that I've missed, but some seem to be more sought-after than others (whether due to rarity or general preference), so I thought it might be interesting to see what Playing Styles people prefer their players to have etc.

Are there any that you really like, any that you hate? Do you notice the effects of some more than others? Any that you've never really used? Or some where you don't think what they do matches the description that Konami give?

Below is a list of all the play styles in PES2020, along with how many are present in the leagues (via PENDB, so may not include new teams and recent BOD acquisitions etc).

Few random thoughts from myself:

Full-back Finisher: had one in my league team a while ago, it's a Frillypink idea that I guess was brought in to represent the likes of Dani Alves/Jordi Alba etc, but I just didn't really notice my player getting forward enough to be on the end of moves unless I really forced it.

Destroyer: Didn't really appreciate when I had one in midfield, think I've lacked something a little since letting him go :g:.

Cross Specialist: Only one I've used is Benitez, who's pretty low rated and needs to be played out of position for the card to be activated. Quite like how he plays anyhow, so would be interested to see how better players are with this style.

Classic 10: I've seen a fair few saying they don't like this play style at all. I can sort of see why but I think if you have the right players around them they can be really effective.

Hole Player: In some ways the opposite to the classic 10, they seem pretty popular. Aren't always in the right place to receive the pass but do make some great late runs into the box.

Fox in the Box: Seemed pretty OP in the last game, maybe less so in this one?

Goal Poacher: Another popular one, although again maybe more so in the last game? I've not used them much so hard to tell.

Dummy Runner, Roaming Flank, Target Man: I've not used these much, so can't really comment, would be interesting to hear others' thoughts though.

Build up, Prolific Winger & Creative Playmaker: Never really noticed how these styles make the players differ from those in the same position with other cards tbh.

Not keen on Goal poacher in this one , get caught offside too much

Classic 10 always seem to far behind the action.

Hole player and Classic 10 have been tweaked a bit this year. Hole player tends to go into the box too much but makes the run atleast when you want to lay it off.

classic 10 sits on the edge when you feel he needs to make a run  but tends to be on the right spot when attacking from the flanks.

Targetmen is the Kind of Tall player that is best used if your playing style demands to build up the game by passing long balls to him its best when people pressure you so you have to play somwhere the targetman is always good in the air so he can do better layoffs for other players, some Targetman if they have good tight posession can also hold the ball on the ground and create counterattacks,  he is actually perfect to play whit the Dummyrunner since the Dummyrunner is a type of player who runns channels creates more room for the other attacking players, because he dooes those forward runns like in the one twos but whitout you having to make them, but the worst thing is to pass the ball to him because like i said he atracts the defenders and leaves room for the other cf or what ever players you have upfront,

The ones I use :

Defensive Goalkeeper - stays on his line. Usually a sold shot stopper.

Defensive Fullback - doesn't join attacks, unless you trigger a run. I use these to keep my defence stable, but I als set runs a lot so I control who runs, and when.

Box to box - basically a player with immense stamina. They are everywhere. My favorite this year.

Creative playmaker - only just started using this. They tend to sit deeper as a AMF, and make killer passes. Ideal if you want to feed wingers or Strikers.

Goal poacher - always running off the shoulder. Either through on goal, or offside most of the time.

Dummy runner - always running into space, dragging defences wide and leaving gaps for other players. Excellent if used well.

Anchorman - basically acts as a 3/4 centreback, dropping deep enough to cover SS and AMFs.

Care about my DMF/CMF/AMFs styles the most.

If I play 352, I would like to have a CMF who's either b2b or hole, but don't currently really have those.

But my system where Benat plays CMF as a C10 and Aouar AMF because he's a Orchestrator (which I hate, good that it isn't active at AMF) works great when keeping possession.

Other system I play is 442 basically, with a DMF and CMF, and there having Benat as a C10 is the most important thing. Then I can put Aouar to LMF (where again his style isn't active).

Had Girotto as a Destroyer DMF for a long time, and was always paranoid that he left my CBs exposed. Now that I brought in Anchorman Glen "gine" Kamara, I can be at peace.

Honestly don't even see that much difference between a Fox and a Poacher. Pukki is a Fox, but he's still making all the runs just like a Poacher.
