JuventusTV exclusive interview with Flanny

Written by

Reporting for Juventus TV here at the Juventus stadium, I am Laura Barriales and I am speaking with the new Juventus manager Flanny.

Barriales, “Hello Flanny, What are your plans for the upcoming season?”

Flanny: Thank you, my plan is simple, im here to guide Juventus to PEN glory, even though that will be difficult due to the lack of funds at my disposal, hopefully I can sit down with the board and come to some sort of agreement, we need more money when competiing in the ferocious PEN market. The last few days has been a bit mad but I am proud to be sitting here as the new manager of Juventus, we have a brilliant stadium, top class training complex with great facilities. I have worked with many great teams but none more so than the old lady.

Barriales, “What are your goals to succeed as manager of Juventus?”

Flanny: My first goal will be promotion for Juventus, a team with our history needs to be challenging in the top division, I will be working my hardest  as i always do, I just hope luck doesn't go against me like it has in the past. I haven’t been so lucky with my recent teams coming up just short. We may need to go backwards to move forwards at first, we need to strengthen our team so I may have to sell a few players and spend that money wisely on new recruits.  I have some great scouts here that will be working day and night to find the required players, i have faith in them like our supporters have faith in me.

Barriales, “Have you got any targets that you can share with the supporters?"

Flanny: I have been working hard to ensure we get the best possible transfers in, I have been in contact with a number of agents.  I have also been in touch with Olympique Marseille chairman about Michy Batshauyi, he is a player I have wanted for a long time and I think he will be won over by this fantastic club. I would also like to bring in a new attacking midfielder, Stefan Johansen would be the perfect fit here at Juventus, Stefan has it all and he is only 23, he is a hard worker which is needed for my restructure of Juventus.

Barriales, “It sounds like you may have to sell before buying, is this the case?”

Flanny: I don’t want to sell any players but if the right offer comes in I will be forced to make a decision, my aim is to not lose too many players but as I said before if the price is right i will have to make a decison that is right for the club. My team is young with lots of potential so I think I will need to bring in some experienced players, we have one of the best training facilities so the young players have got it all to fulfill their potential.

Barriales, “Your first game is at home vs Parma. Will you be ready for the match?”

Flanny: Will we be ready? Possibly, we will be focused on our job to win the game and keep an clean sheet to give the backline some confidence.  Parma are a good team and with Mattia Destro in their ranks it will be a difficult game to overcome, but we will be focused and determined to overcome the odds. Our stadium will be full and i cant wait to experience that atmosphere, with that kind of support behind us anything is possible. That's why we aim to go for the win in every home game and then pick up a few more on the road, that is what's needed for promotion and that is our aim, it is where we want to be, I want to be the manager that leads this glorious club to the promise land, I have the experience, my first team was CSKA Moscow in Russia and I did quite well, ending the season in the top half and then with Celtic FC i did the same. I am sure we can go one better this time and gain promotion in my very first season here at Juventus.

Barriales, “Who do you predict will be your star player?”

Flanny: There are quite a few to be perfectly honest, Big Fraser Forster is a player I admire, he is a big athletic goalkeeper with lots of potential. it is always a positive when you know you have a keeper of that quality that you can rely on. He did it with Celtic FC when I was there, he was the driving force behind our success and i believe he will do the same here at Juventus. We have a tall squad but even they look small compared to Fraser, you can see why the opponents are intimidated by him when through one vs one. Then there is Kurt Zouma who is a monster in defence, he is strong and quick, he brings the physical attributes of an olympian to our defence. He will be working with Matthias Ginter and Karim Rekik in the defence which should prove to be a formidable trio. We also have Leon Goretzka who is going to be one of the best players in world football, Leon’s movement on the pitch is incredible, he works his socks off and he glides across the pitch, he makes everything look so easy. He is one of the first names on my team sheet, along with Gary Hooper. Hooper was with me at both CSKA and Celtic, he was my top scorer in both seasons and i expect the same here. So as you can see it’s tough to say who will be my main man, we will just have to wait and see.

Barriales, “Have you made a decision regarding the captaincy of your team?

Flanny: We have a few leaders in our team, Forster could be a captain as he was with Celtic, Kurt Zouma has leadership qualities to, hes always communicating and organising the defence. But my decision has to be Leon Goretzka, he is a top player and throughout the training sessions i have seen a true leader who has galvanized the squad

Barriales, “Is there anything you would like to tell the Juventus supporters?”

Flanny: Well put it this way I will be fighting for my life here, to get us where we should be, and that is top 4 of the Premier League. I am confident that me and the boys will rise to the challenge and within a couple of seasons Juve will be back where they belong. It has been a pleasure speaking with you Laura but I have work to do now, take care.
