So far this season Barcelona have been performing above expectations, sitting in a respectable mid table 12th, they are well out of the relegation zone and look set to continue this fine form.

Manager JmG has brought a new formation to the table and abandoned the ever present 4-3-3, to take up a more conventional 4-4-2 with a twist. But he didn’t leave his style of play and still attempts to keep possession with short passing play. This has been a revolution to the Catalan’s performances, which has added confidence to the players that they can win more matches.

Every win this season has brought about a great outcome of stats, where they have yet to concede a goal in any game that they took all 3pts, so far 5 wins, with 5 clean sheets for the outstanding Ter Stegen, even though Barcelona are one of the teams with most goals conceded, this is still a very impressive stat. On the other end, of their 7 loses to date they have been within 1 goal of a draw in 4 of those.

Their goal scoring form has been at a great standard too, only failing to score in 1 out of 13 matches, and averaging 1.8 goals per match. At the top of that goal scoring table is 23yr old D. Hoesen, a ℗9m signing in January, who has notched up 8 goals and 3 MotM awards for his efforts. The Dutch forward is known for his technical ability, using nimble footwork to get past defenders, and has the strength to push them off to make space. Elsewhere Rafinha and V. Viola have found the net 5 times apiece to help the teams cause.

Although very active in the transfer market, FCB have not made many signings since the start of the season. The most recent being Sergi Roberto, the 22yr old Spanish midfielder arrived at the Camp Nou for a fee of ℗20m. Many criticised the price of this player but has been worth it since his debut match, where he scored a resounding dipping volley from 22 yards out.

Less than halfway through the season, there is still a lot of football to be played, and it will be interesting to see how far Barcelona can push for a promotion spot.
