Batshuayi for the final push.

Written by

As Roma's season draws to a close, as the Italian outfit sit, wait and pray for rivals valenciennes to drop points, as a cup final looms, one master stroke of genius from manager Alexander Panderini stands out.

49m was the figure paid for Belgian wonder kid Michy Batshuayi. And what an impression he has made so far.

Panderinis men had to make sure they finish the season strong, being in the latter stages of the xbox cup and fighting for the division 1 title. A brave decision was made to sell a popular but misfiring Simone Zaza and bring in a new face with a little more pace and better finishing ability. After scouring the market and making plenty of inquires the Italians brought in Michy Batshuayi for a substantial fee. One for the future many thought, but bagging 7 goals from Romas last 6 league games, including a marvellous hat trick against stade brest, it occurred to the masses that he may be one for the 'now' too. Batshuayi has quickly become a fan favourite and one of the most feared strikers in the league, always being in the right place at the right time, he is clearly a natural goalscorer who has done wonders for the Rome attack in such a short space of time.

Which brings us to this point in time. The cup final is where this young Belgian can make history and put himself up there as a Roma legend. Not to mention if by some wild stroke of luck valenciennes manage to draw one of their remaining 3 games and hand Roma the title, that feat would no doubt cast Batshuayi in an even brighter light. Of course Panderini's men could very well end the season empty handed which would no doubt disappoint fans and players alike, but in no way would season 8 be a disappointment to the Romans, holding the best defensive record accross all leagues, the most clean sheets and the best signature designs on PEN. Guaranteed premiership football next season and the imminent return of the prodigal son Hakan Calhanoglu. Things look promising for a team who came out of a torrid transition period and are now reeking the benefits.

Stay tuned to read how the season finale pans out and to hear Roma's plans for next season and beyond.
