Superstars of the Reset

Written by

Before the Reset the league was flush with superstars, the likes of Thiago Silva, Willian, Benzema and Buffon roamed the PEN plains laying waste to underpowered teams with their sheer slagginess. However, the Reset has removed these colossi from the food chain and a new age of mid-range beasts now take centre stage.  So who, in this post-slagalyptic wasteland, are the new superstars of PEN?  Our correspondent, Terry Bunkham, picks his Post-Reset Superstar XI...

GK – T. KRUL (Kitchengun206)

The first player landed with a balls deep Free Agent Friday (FAF) auction bid was big Tim Krul.  This deceptively mobile giant is a literal and metaphorical wall between the sticks.  With Offensive Goalkeeper and Long Throw cards he’s also got that bit of extra stardust.

Honourable Mentions: O. KARNEZIS, JOEL ROBLES, GOMES

RB – E. HYSAJ (Oldeuboi)

A lot of competition in this position but I’ve gone for the young Albanian on the strength across physical, attacking and defensive stats.  Quick, energetic, strong but agile and great in the tackle this wing back has it all.

Honourable Mentions: T. XHAKA, M. DE SCIGLIO, V. TOROSIDIS

LB – S. KOLASINAC (Lisoti)

Powerhouse Bosnian Kolasinac takes the spot here.  As quick as anyone at left back he is good going forward but it’s defensively where he excels, stronger than any winger he’s likely to face and with fantastic defensive stats he’s not going to be allowing many crosses into the box.  Equally impressive in defensive midfield and central defence too.

Honourable Mentions: P VAN AAHNHOLT, R. HAPS, A. BABA

CB – A. ARRIBAS (Rdotman) & M. NASTASIC (Miken333)

I’ve gone for a right footed and left footed pairing for balance.  Arribas has the highest defensive prowess in PEN and is strong and mobile meaning it’s unlikely he’s going to be caught out of position.  Nastasic brings that touch of class to defence and has both the Heading and Man Marking cards for an added bonus.

Honourable Mentions: N. ISIMAT-MARIN, M. YOSHIDA, B. CESAR, PAULO OLIVEIRA

DMF – A. N’DIAYE (Sami3lungs)

Another FAF purchase this monster has been unleashed on the unsuspecting PEN field.  No other player matches his physical presence anywhere on the pitch and when that’s married with fantastic ball winning skills, high speed, a great engine, reliability and a tank of a right foot mean this was an easy call.

Honourable Mentions: G. ESCALANTE, M. KRANEVITTER, J. KANKAVA

CMF – J. WARD-PROWSE (Scottish Champ)

A wand of a right foot in open play and from set pieces combined with his age and potential make Ward-Prowse the standout for me.  The diminutive England international can pull the strings in the middle of the park and indeed no other CMF can beat his combined rating for low and lofted passes.

Honourable Mentions: BAUMGARTLINGER, A. SURMAN, J. DOS SANTOS

LMF / LWF – D. LAXALT (ClaretMatt)

This speedy left winger edges it for me due to his quality on the run and his energy to torment a full back all day long (plus his lovely hairdo).  In a tight field of speedsters, jinkers and goal getters his all-round quality puts him just ahead of the rest of the pack.

Honourable Mentions: M. ALBRIGHTON, ALVARO VADILLO, C. N’JIE

RMF / RWF – MATIAS NAHUEL (Lisoti)

This little Argentinian takes the right wing berth on account of his quality on the ball.  Cutting inside he create or finish with defenders often losing track of him off the ball due to his Hole Player style.   Not only that though he can whip in a swerving cross from the touchline too.

Honourable Mentions: G. TORE, V. MOSES, L. OCAMPOS

AMF/SS – A. MEHMEDI (Slicklu)

Another hard call but I’m going for the Swiss international who’s equally comfortable across the whole frontline.  Technically gifted he’s hard to dispossess and strong in tussle.  It’s ability to score from attacking midfield which edge him into the team for me.  With the Hole Player card he finds space on the edge of the box and has a powerful and accurate shot to take advantage of it.

Honourable Mentions: J. ANTONIO-REYES, G. DE ARRASCAETA, G. RAMIREZ

CF – G. SIO (R3con)

Whilst there is strong competition I don’t think anyone can argue with this choice.  His physical game is up there with the best, his Goal Poacher style means any hesitancy in defence will put him through on goal and with his great finishing and rocket shot there’s not many keepers that will deal with his threat when one on one.

Honourable Mentions: T. DEENEY, OMAR AL SOMAH, D. ORIGI
