The Spotlight On: Luca Mazzitelli

Written by TeZombie

About a month ago manager Tezombie was asked to pick a player for the admin selection auctions; some were puzzled with his selection. Luca Mazzitelli is hardly a household name, nor is he known as a hot prospect in world football. What a better opportunity than right now to shine the spotlight on this unknown player.

Born on the 10th July 1995 in Rome, Luca started his youth career at AS Roma. He was showing some potential and thus given the honour of  his senior debut in 2014 against Genoa. After a few cameo appearances from the bench and making an impact, it was deemed that he needed real first team experience to fully develop, meaning he was subsequently was loaned out to Brescia. It was here that at the age of 19 he suddenly found himself as a senior first choice midfielder for the first time in his career, playing in 36 matches for the season.

Mazzitelli really kicked off his career whilst on loan to Brescia

This really put him out there for all to see, and a year later Sassuolo spotted this and grabbed his services for what is seemingly a bargain €3.5m, with the promise of first team football during the 2016-2017 season. 2016 was pivotal for Luca internationally as he made his Italian u21 debut and since then managed to play in almost every game. Domestically, however, it was not until 2017 when he was given his chance, racking up 16 appearances with consistent ratings from whoscored as well as raving reports from the Italian Newspapers and pundits alike.

“Mazzitelli  the football of the future”

When TeZombie was asked to pick his admin auction player this guy was the perfect fit. He offered everything a PEN manager could ask for. Being young, just kicking off with his senior career, a great spread of statistics in-game, tall, great cards and bags of potential. Lots of potential. TeZombie had no hesitation in throwing Luca into the fold, replacing Hudson as the playmaker of the team instantly. The 69 rated midfielder was finding himself a starter in the real world, and now PEN too! A month into his career with Blackburn Rovers and Mazzitelli has played in all but two games for TeZombie, scoring some amazing goals along the way. Luca has made his mark in the leagues too, scoring twice to beat Swinny in a closely fought match, also giving TeZombie his first win of the season. Coupled with over half a dozen assists as well as getting two of man of the matches along the way other PEN managers are beginning to see why TeZombie chose this starlet. Outside of the leagues he has had many more MOTM awards and when he doesn't he’s always in the top 5 on ratings. Not bad for someone who is usually the lowest rated player on the field.

When asked about Mazzitelli, Tezombie could not speak high enough of him “It’s quite refreshing to see such a wise head on such a young talent. Mazza has been pivotal in my teams league revival and his match-winning performances have helped me win 5 of my last 7 games. He plays without regret, he has an amazing passing range and goes toe-to-toe with anyone. He’s fearless.”

It’s quite clear that Mazzitelli has not let his manager down, and with a potential to become even better in the 2018 season, this 14m acquisition could turn out to be an absolute bargain. Time will tell doesn’t count here, he is already there.
