Derrick Luckassen: From bum to (non)STAR

Written by RiQ1987

One of the eyecatchers in the newly promoted AZ Alkmaar this season is Derrick Luckassen. A lot of opponents seem to wonder who this guy is, intercepting all their passes in midfield, while destroying their players. It is time for an introduction!

Manager RiQ1987 signed Derrick Luckassen on 23/05/2017 from manager Chucka. The AZ Alkmaar coach had faith in his signing, seeing as he splashed a staggering 14M PENce on the 70 rated CB from the Netherlands. With his 21 years old, Derrick Luckassen was just at the beginning of something beautiful.

Derrick Luckassen made his debut for his new club in Division 1 EAST. He didnt manage to get into the first eleven, but when the other CBs didnt feel like playing, Luckassen made his appearance. Although he never dissapointed, he stayed on the bench for most of the season, only appearing in friendly fixtures.

Luckassen showed great promise in the games he played, his manager RiQ1987 always compared him with Kouyate, a versatile player, who can play DMF and CB, a great asset for every PEN team. Other managers always laughed the optimism of manager RiQ1987 away, but little did they know ..

Since AZ Alkmaar promoted to the Premiership, it seems like Luckassen is fullfilling his promise, and manager RiQ1987 couldn't be closer to the truth. Luckassen developed himself to a 78 rated DMF, who is also capable of playing as a CB at 79!

From 70 rated bum to the captain of the team

Favorite position

When asked what his favorite position is, Luckassen answered: "I dont really mind, I play where the manager needs me. It appears that the manager prefers me in the DMF role, breaking opponents attack early in the pitch. Ofcourse, with Diego Llorente and Bastos we have two other good CBs, this way all three of us can play."

Alot of managers have been making enquiries about Luckassen, but manager RiQ1987 is not looking to sell. When asked about this, Luckassen responded: "Well, I am feeling good at AZ Alkmaar. We have just promoted to the Premiership and I am confident we can surprise alot of teams. So no, I don't think there is a step up for me now. If we ever relegate again, then ofcourse, I want to play at the highest level. But right at this point, I am where I want to be, so no point in changing colours".

So, Luckassen is happy at AZ Alkmaar, and AZ Alkmaar is happy with Luckassen. We will not be expecting a move aytime soon.
