Barcelona Duo Make Immediate Impact

The BOD transfer window saw many players enter and exit the league in a flurry of activity that hasn't been seen on PEN for some time. When the announcement was made that not only was the BOD open, but it was an 'anything-goes-free-for-all' the Barcelona manager knew this was his chance to bring in some of his long term targets.

The first offer was for Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey, an all-time favourite player of Bluebird and a player that he has worked with at previous clubs. He knew what Ramsey would bring to the team so put in quite a hefty offer to the BOD worth over 100m in trades, but Davo's board turned it down. Having failed to land Ramsey Bluebird turned his attention to another one of his old favourites - Olivier Giroud. Bluebird made another eye watering 100m+ trade offer, but before the BOD could consider it, he decided to retract his offer and take a different approach.

Having such a highly rated and expensive player such as Giroud would mean big sacrifices would have to have been made to the rest of the squad. They would have needed a new CB and midfielder but with no cash left this would mean even more sales to fund the restructure of the squad. So after talks with the FC Barcelona Board they decided to go for the cheaper option and bring in some lower rated players from Bluebird's old club Cardiff.

The Barcelona scouts have been very impressed with several players from the Welsh outfit but 3 of them stood out more than the others. They were Kenneth Zohore, Joe Ralls and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing. An off was made to the BOD which included 3 of Barcelona's players + 11.6m PENce for the 3 Cardiff players. Unfortunately for Barcelona, personal terms couldn't be agreed with Mendez-Laing which meant only Zohore and Ralls were included in the trade with the BOD. They would link up with former team mates, Hoilett, Bamba and Bryson who all signed for Barcelona earlier in the season.

Bluebird was very excited to bring these 2 players to the club, Zohore would provide much needed backup for Barcelona's fan favourite Sala, and Ralls is a CMF that still hasn't reached his full potential yet. Both players weren't brought in as first teamers, more to add depth to the squad with an eye on the future potential of them.

In their first game against D Rock's Chelsea they started on the bench. It was a tight intense game with neither side able to break the other down. On 65 minutes Bluebird decided to take a chance on his new recruits and brought them both on. Going from a 451 to a 442 diamond. Zohore went up front alongside Sala, and Ralls slotted in to the left side CMF role. Both players looked lively and the game started to open up a bit. Then, on the 74th minute, Torres broke down a Chelsea attack, got the ball to Ralls who took it past one player, fed a delightful ball into Zohore who showed his strength to beat 2 defenders as he burst in to the box and rifled a shot which cannoned off the inside of the post, hit the GK and went in! The crowd erupted as the ball hit the back of the net breaking the deadlock. The link up play between Ralls and Zohore clearly hadn't been lost from their time in South Wales together.

Bluebird has since been trialling the 442 diamond with the 2 players in with great success remaining undefeated in 4 friendlies winning 3 and drawing 1. This meant another CF would need to be drafted in, and wide man Jeff Louis was to be sacrificed for experienced French CF Charbonnier. The 29 year old target man can even cover AMF with his great weighted passing. There were rumours of Ashely Williams being brought in but after much negotiating he ended up at Hamburger SV with manager Fubar who tabled an 11th hour bid of 27m.

The new system and players at Barcelona are creating a real buzz around the city. The Catalan giants will make a push for the play offs in the second half of the season, with the aim of getting promoted back to the Premier League. Hopefully Zohore and Ralls will be the unexpected difference of getting promoted or not!
